Waving Hello to Google

I'm not too sure how many people are aware of Google Wave being released not too long ago. I would like to say not a lot of people are aware, but then again a lot of my viewers are high tech gurus who were invited in the first wave of invites. So, I was invited through Brian (go to brian.brispace.net) and so I decided to give it a shot.

I wasn't really positive about what Google Wave was. I have to admit when I knew someone who was giving invites away I just wanted to be involved and receive one. I'm glad I did.

Google Wave is definitely moving towards a new way of communication that seems interesting, yet at times confusing.

There are some bugs that I believe should be fixed sooner than later. I know it was just released and they are still working on it, but the whole done and delete button placement is a little annoying. When I want to send my message to someone I have to press done, instead of enter. The whole enter key to send your message needs to be implemented soon, it would make life easier.

On my Mac I use adium as my way to chat with people. Instead of just AIM, it allows me to see and talk to my contacts who are on everything from gchat, facebook, aim, and so on. Adium shows you in the lower left hand corner when a person is typing to you. Google Wave is trying something similar to this, where you can actually see the person typing the words as they appear in real life. It is a bit odd though. Since I can see what, lets say Brian or Nickl is typing, I don't need to wait until they hit done. I find it quite funny to watch how people really type, and how bad or slow they are at it.

A neat feature that I also found to be fun is the fact that a group of my friends and I can add a sudoku game and play live with each other. It gives me plenty of entertainment.

Oh, and currently there is a video chat section, but it is needing some work. However, the music they play when you are initiating a conversation is great, at least I think so. I find myself grooving out to it while I wait for someone to show up on the screen.

I look forward to see what else is to come. Maybe I'll go and play around with it right now.

Peace.

I'm glad to know your invite has come in handy! I didn't get to hear any of that music the video chat gadget was playing, probably because mine was sending error messages left and right. We'll have to try it out again and see what happens.

Hey Katie and Brian,

Finally got an invite, yet no one to test it out with. Can you add me dave.mathison@googlewave.com?

Would love to try a few things on GWave with friendly peeps.

See you there!
